from Colonel Frank Hyatt on the occasion of the FBI director receiving an honorary Doctorate of Law degree from the Pennsylvania Military College on June 6, 1936. Very attractive with full nickel plating on the blade, highlighted by gold gilted decorative floral scrolls. One side of blade etched in gold: ‘John Edgar Hoover’, other side marked ‘U.S.’ in gold gilting. Scabbard is generally VG; considerable amt of orig nickel and gold gilting remaining; some deterioration from bad storage. Marked on both sides of the scabbard: ‘Presented by the Corps of Cadets, Pennsylvania Military College, June 6, 1936’. Accompanying this piece is a leather sheath painted in black and red with the monogram of ‘J.E.H.’ on the top flap; shows some wear and deterioration but generally in VG cond. Very interesting and definitely an authentic collectible piece of Americana. e

Very interesting knife possibly used by someone who at one time served the sea. The reason I say that is because of the outstanding macramé type braid work on the handle. The blade is marked ‘A. Rogers & Son, 6 Northfolk St, Sheffield’ and is approximately 7” long and is in excellent condition. German silver handguards are excellent, original sheath in fine condition with German silver tip point and fine leather condition. Nice looking outfit. e

8-1/2” clip point blade with offset ‘S’ shaped handguard, a spiral carved bone handle, German silver ferrules, missing the buttcap. The blade, once highly ornate, now just has traces of orig pattern and shows signs of some rather poor sharpening having been done. Other than that, the metal is a grayish patina coloration. The carved bone handles have a few minor cracks but are still sound and serviceable. Not a bad looking early Bowie with orig sheath which is in VG condition and retains German silver engraved parts. e

Base of the blade retains just slight traces of blue and gilted finish, hilt retains 60-70% silver plate; fine grip. Scabbard is scuffed but sound, mounts retains much silver plate. Black leather scabbard is very sound with brass parts and gold gilting still intact. Overall sword is in excellent condition with 90% bright blue and gilt decoration. Brass scabbard engraved with banding & panoply, suspension mounts cast with leafage & fitted with 3 rings. Reversed scabbard affixed with copper plaque inscribed ‘Horstmann & Sons, Philadelphia’. Retains 90%+ gold gilt overall, old grip repair-sound & solid, traces finish on scabbard with a very slight dent in the middle.
