.22 Caliber. Overall metal retains most bright shiny re-nickel, nice markings. Right side of stock has large initials "WJL" expertly carved in elaborate script. Pearl inlays on both sides of wrist plus one in forearm. Wrist repair, replacement sights, action needs work, missing some parts, but still a very interesting example. Expert carving on stock and nickel finish alone make it worth several times the asking price. Would make a great wall-hanger. e

(13-464) MARLIN MODEL 1881 LEVER ACTION RIFLE IN .40 CALIBER

Formerly in the possession of "Yellowstone Kelly" also known as "The Scout"-Luther S. Kelly. Accompanying this gun are numerous documents; one of which is a postcard addressed to Kelly from Merle Apperson. Apperson was with the party that located "Ishi Camp" in 1908. Ishi was the last Aboriginal Native American in North America. I believe the postcard goes on to say that the gun was stolen by Bob Hackley from the Indians on the upper Deer Creek and then given to Yellowstone Kelly. Ishi was the subject of a recent full length motion picture of the last Native American Indian discovered played by "Dustin Hoffman". 2-3 books, an autographed copy of Kelly's autobiography, a copy of "Ishi", the postcard referring to the Model 1881 Marlin and a photograph of Apperson also accompany this gun. Very interesting rifle-the documentation and authenticity look to be quite genuine. Gun is in generally VG condition with sound wood and correct shotgun butt. Overall metal is basically a grayish plum brown patina coloration with sharp corners, original sights, nice functioning action, VG bore.
