(10-659) "8 GAUGE 2 BBL SET MADE BY THE DAVENPORT FIREARMS CO. OF NORWICH, CT"
Very unusual gun: one bbl measures 36", the other is 24". The thickness of the steel on the bbls is quite incredible-both have fine bores. Overall gun is fine with most Damascus pattern showing on the bbls; receiver retains 60% orig case colors, the balance turned silvery. Orig wood had a coat of varnish added but was not sanded or undersized; still in fine cond with no splits or cracks. This is the only one of these sets I've ever heard of. e

(9-1017) SERIAL #1 SPENCER 1884 12 GAUGE SHOTGUN
32” Damascus barrel and Damascus magazine tube have turned a dark plum blue brown patina coloration; most Damascus pattern visible. Receiver turned mostly dark on right side and forward area of left-balance is a nickelly gray patina; sharp scroll and vine engraving with a hunter and dog scene on left side. Interesting that right side is marked ‘Spencer Arm Co.’ (without patent date). Engraving appears to be done by the New York master Louis D. Nimschke-quite elaborate. SN 1 is present on numerous parts throughout the gun. Of further interest is that the barrel bears the Model 1886 type address, the cond matches the rest of the gun perfectly and it appears no alterations have been made. VG walnut, short non-checkered pump handle, checkering on pistol grip somewhat worn; otherwise VG+ walnut. The carrier’s forward area is of a different design than seen on other 1884’s, etc.; the slot is very short. VG shiny bore with a few pits. Interesting Spencer; possibly one-of-a-kind. e
