This is a very early 3rd Model (89K range) with a 28 round bbl in 38 Caliber. Orig unmolested gun with a pleasing blue brown patina. Good condition nice fitting wood with one small sliver missing in a top corner, correct shotgun butt. Bore is somewhat dark and may benefit greatly from a good cleaning, rifling looks good. Checkered stock, set trigger, 1/2 octagon, deluxe wood, case hardened frame. Buttstock has VG fitting wood with usage marks but no cracks or loss of wood; forearm is also good fitting with no cracks but a small loss of wood at forearm cap on left side, frame case colors have aged gracefully and are about gone. Bbl has likewise turned but still has blue in protected areas. Unbelievable bore! A few rub/grip marks on otherwise clean smooth bbl metal. This serial range, 25,XXX, is noted for some of the finest 1873's ever built. Many extra features on this gun. e

VG bore, metal possibly lightly cleaned and refinished a long, long time ago. Barrel marking is a bit faint, original serial number is unreadable and another number has been applied. Corners are fairly sharp, some rust is on a small area of the barrel; otherwise the metal is basically smooth and is a very dark blue brown patina coloration, original sights. VG wood with a couple of cracks present in the forearm. Overall, this is a very decent example. e

Full octagon barrel retains 75% blue-; the balance is turning a plum blue patina coloration, magazine tube has excellent blue in protected upper area, the balance turned a dark plum blue, 90% receiver blue on left side, 70% receiver blue on right, the balance is turning. Considerable dimming case colors on hammer and lever, original sights, crescent buttplate. Fine walnut with most original varnish remaining. Interesting gun in that the frame was originally intended for a carbine: staple holes plugged and finished as a rifle. This is verified on Cody Research Form.
