Barrel appears to have been refinished at one time, it’s hard to tell-looks VG. Other than that, it’s superb. Scarce! e

Excellent bore, professional and tasteful work includes gold inlaid lines and barrel markings. The left side has a gold plated bear scene, the right side has a leaping stag. Foliate scroll engraving completely covers the remainder of the frame, lever and retaining bands. Muzzle area, rear sight area and breech areas of the barrel are engraved as well. Stocks are checkered and carved in a fleur d’lis style as well as having a carved tiger and bull moose on opposite sides of the buttstock. Virtually all re-finish remains. Purchased from one of the exec’s of the Winchester Factory in approx 1979. Gun was made in the Winchester tool room-they were studying the feasibility of making a flat side carbine which would take less work to manufacture & have a stronger receiver. Accompanied with a Letter from Winchester stating these facts from the person who owned the gun. serial number ends with an ‘X’ indicating that this is an experimental gun. (10-322) VERY INTERESTING WINCHESTER 1866-1966 CENTENNIAL RIFLE
When this model was in the planning stages, the executives all guessed as to how many might be manufactured & sold. Ted Hazelwood guessed 66,666. His guess was highest by around 20,000. They sold over 100,000! This special gun was made up for and inscribed ‘Ted Hazelwood, S.N. 66,666’. It has very fancy wood with most all original lacquer remaining, gold plated receiver and forearm cap; cap gold has flaked a bit next to the forearm. All the finish remains on barrel, magazine & lever. The barrel is marked ‘A Century of Leadership 1866-1966’. Complete with provenance and original box. These guns are seldom found in very good condition-this one is about average. Original gumwood stock is sound and solid with a light coat of varnish added. Overall gun is in generally VG condition with no pits; mostly a plum brown coloration; traces original blue, VG bore. Very interestingly the rear ladder sight is marked in meters and the gun features side mount sling swivels running underneath the side of the forearm band and the side of the stock.
