RARE SPRINGFIELD MODEL 1884 TRAP DOOR CADET RIFLEItem # MR509-18-119 Correct 29-1/2 bbl. In fine overall cond with some case colors remaining on the trap door, bbl retains almost all blue which is starting to tone to a pleasing antique patina coloration. Wood is in VG cond but shows some handling marks and there are a few rack numbers on the stock; no cracks or losses of wood. Correct orig sights, VG bore. Very nice, rare gun.
1795 SPRINGFIELD FLINTLOCK MUSKETItem # MR657-19-473 This is the Type 1 Springfield with 45" bbl. The pan and frizzen work very nicely with spring being just fine. The hammer spring does not work. It is loose as is the trigger. Evidently the spring is broken. Pretty much all there with the bbl bands, sling swivels, the iron furniture and even the ram rod. For being 220 plus years old, it is pretty good looking and has aged gracefully. It would look absolutely perfect above the fireplace. Definitely a piece of American History!
SPRINGFIELD FENCING MUSKETItem # MR596-18-590
EXTREMELY RARE MODEL 1873 RICE TROWEL BAYONETItem # M5-736-17-455 For use on Springfield rifles. This bayonet was designed by General Rice. It actually was kind of a good idea but it just didn't work out. The idea was that it would be a combination bayonet/digging tool. It really didn't do either very well. For one thing, the high brass didn't like it because it looked goofy in parades having a shovel on the end of a gun, and in the field it didn't work so good because soldiers were prone to leave it on the rifle while they were trying to dig a hole, thus either plugging the muzzle or even possibly bending the bbl if they got into rocky terrain. These were used for a short time by a couple of different units. Anyway, it makes for a very good collectable. These are in VG+ condition. They have some age markings to them but are still very nice. No dings and alot of blue remaining on the handle. A very unique item for anyone with a Springfield collection.
